Come Ride with MeIn memory of my friend Emery Kalinov, who passed away this summer from a long and courageous battle with cancer, I am going to complete the 100-mile Ride for the Roses on October 26th. I'll also be thinking of Elaine Levine, who has been fighting a winning battle against cancer for many years. I'd like to ask you to join me in this effort by making a donation to the Lance Armstrong foundation in Emery's memory, in Elaine's honor, or in tribute to a cancer survivor close to you. The Ride for the Roses is a bike ride organized by Lance Armstrong, cancer survivor and five-time winner of the Tour de France. It's held each year in Austin, TX and attracts more than 6,500 entrants, from Lance Armstrong and Robin Williams to, well, me! I am planning to do the 100-mile course (the longest distance at the event). This will be the longest ride I've attempted, and it will take me around seven hours. (There is a time cutoff for the 100-mile route, so a mechanical mishap could force me onto the 70-mile route; but I'm really looking forward to the challenge of the longer distance). I've been training for more than four months, riding several times a week, and I've put in more than a thousand training miles. If you can believe it, I've been waking before 7 AM -- fighting my inner night owl -- to get rides in before the Texas sun makes it too hot. All of this pales in comparison to the courageous, daily, hourly struggle of mind and body that Emery endured in his battle with cancer. I think of him often when I'm trying to push myself up a hill and he's gotten me up out of my seat more than a few times. Would you please support this effort by pledging a donation for my ride? The money goes to cancer research and help for cancer survivors. I have included donation information below, including instructions for donating online and a form for offline donations. A donation of any amount is deeply appreciated. Also, if you make a pledge, I'll wear your message -- whether profound or profoundly goofy -- on my shirt or helmet for the ride. Tell me what to display, or send me a graphic. (If you send a large attachment, please send a smaller email saying so, as I filter large messages). For questions of any sort, please call me at (512) 659-6846, or contact the Lance Armstrong Foundation (http://www.laf.org - (512) 236-8820) Important Information
